Press Release: Santa Fe Community Yoga Center Moving After 30 Years; Calls on Community For Support

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Santa Fe Community Yoga Center (SFCYC) – The nonprofit yoga center behind Yoga in Prisons and Yoga in Schools will soon move locations for the first time since its founding by Santa Fe icon Michael Maitreya Hopp 30 years ago.

After learning it would have to move from its long-time location, SFCYC signed a lease at 3229B Richards Lane in Santa Fe.

The new space is bigger, more visible for the street, and has ample parking for community members. It is also equipped with central heating and cooling, a mini-split, and two bathrooms. Its open floor plan will accommodate two practice spaces and a lobby area.

Despite the benefits, the move is bittersweet after 30 years in its current location at 826 Camino De Monte Rey Suite B1. The community will miss the labyrinth created by founder Michael Maitreya Hopp, the recently built book library, the beautiful murals by artist Nico Stellar, and the decades of memories in the original space.

To manage this transition financially, SFCYC seeks community support.

SFCYC is fundraising $50,000 to offset the cost of its move. People can donate one-time or create a recurring monthly commitment. Individuals with building and renovation experience are also invited to donate time and labor. New Mexico companies who donate time are eligible for benefits as part of SFCYC’s business sponsorship program

Moriah Arnold of SFCYC shares, “We are certain that with community support we can turn this unexpected transition into the start of a beautiful new era for SFCYC. We look forward to continuing to offer inclusive yoga programming for the benefit of the community, hopefully for another 30 years!

SFCYC appreciates and encourages all press coverage of this transition and all community support. Coverage and support helps make it possible for SFCYC to continue making wellness resources available to the Santa Fe community through Yoga in Schools, Yoga in Prisons, by-donation community yoga, and other accessible and inclusive offerings.
